TEOFANI AND Co

The Teofani Company Limited, was a London company founded in 1880 by Teofani and Co, a Turkish tobacco importing company. The Teofani Company Limited produced the famous high quality "Teofani" cigarettes, which were in great demand on the British market. The company was known for its unusual and eye-catching marketing strategies, such as placing photo postcards (of athletes, politicians, movie stars, etc.) inside its cigarette packs. These postcards are now highly sought after by collectors. The cigarette pack in the photograph below had an elegant design, with a red frame made of swastikas and the brand name in large letters with a large swastika in the center. The swastika was a symbol of good luck and prosperity, used by many cultures and religions, before it was adopted by Nazism. These cigarettes were a favorite of British soldiers during the First World War. This cigarette pack would be very unusual to see in the present day, due to the negative meaning the swastika took on during World War II.
